NEW KOREAN POPULATION DEMOGRAPHICS CHART
This is a plot I did in Tableau last year. It is about Korean population statistics in Australia. It includes information on birth rate, age distribution, and net migration. The data is for the year 2000. I am adding a new category to this presentation for this year which is what the KORUS FTA will be going into effect on June 2015.
The benefit of the FTA is that it will result in less immigration and increased net migration of Koreans to Australia. Let us look at the impact of this agreement over the next 10 years. The new category is labelled as net migration which is the sum of all the other categories.
I have also included my own opinion about the issue which is that I believe that Australia should welcome Korean migration as it is good for our economy and will result in more employment opportunities. I have also included my opinion on immigration which is that there should be a limit and we should control our numbers. For example, I believe we should limit the number of people who can live in Australia and also the number of people who can live in Melbourne. I also support the idea of building a fence on the border with North Korea. There is nothing wrong with building a fence, especially one that is built in good architectural taste.
I put my opinion on the KORUS FTA in italics and on immigration in Bold Italics. The figures do not include the flow-on effects of people who move to Australia from Korea and Korea from Australia. Also, the number of KORUS nationals is the net migration from Korea to Australia. It does not include the people who move from Australia to Korea.
Again, these are the figures for 2000. The figures have been adjusted to include the number of people who were born in Korea but live in Australia 0b46394aab
